JACKSON -- Quarterback Benjamin Hickman brought a different dimension to Picayune’s offense.
The senior threw two touchdown passes as the Maroon Tide drubbed Starkville 38-21 to win the Class 5A State championship on Saturday night at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Picayune (13-2) won its first state championship since 1986, when coach Dodd Lee was an assistant. Picayune’s other state titles came in 1922, 1943 and 1948.
